There’s a lot of events in Rio de Janeiro during the month of September. We are sure everyone is going to find something that fits them perfect. From nightlife to street parties and cultural events, September is making Rio de Janeiro much more fun!
Circuito Interno Bhering is like a big fair with everything you can think of. Fashion brands, shops, food, drinks and music — tons of attractions spread over six floors of this amazing old building. The venue for this is the old Bhering Factory, in Santo Cristo neighborhood, near Centro (Rua Orestes, 28 map). A good choice to spend a relaxed Saturday afternoon. From 1pm to 8pm. Free entrance.
- Pacha Ibiza On Tour
If you like good, big parties, this is the one for you. Pacha is one of the most famous night clubs in the world, established in different countries such as Brazil, United States, Germany, Spain and others. For this time, Pacha is bringing Ibiza to Rio, specifically to Riocentro map in Barra da Tijuca, with high quality music and guaranteed fun. You can buy the tickets here ranging from R$70 to R$180. - Jazz Festival at Praça Tiradentes
From 1pm to 8pm, Praça Tiradentes map in Centro will be hosting a great Jazz Festival. Also at the event, food and art stands for you to enjoy the day. Free event.
- O Fuxico Fair
For this fair in Praça Nossa Senhora da Paz (Ipanema) map, you will find food stands, art, fashion, decor, pet adoption and craft for kids. September 1st and 2nd, from 12pm to 8pm. Free event.
The hike to Pedra da Gávea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. - Flamengo vs. Ceará at Maracanã
Good opportunity to visit the Maracanã Stadium, as Flamengo, the biggest football team in Rio de Janeiro, is playing against Ceará for the Brazilian Championship. You can find information on where to buy tickets on Flamengo’s website. You need to buy the tickets beforehand, so don’t wait until last minute. Tickets ranging from R$30 to R$205. The game starts at 11am.
- Leme Samba Jazz Beer Fest
Free street party at Praça Júlio de Noronha in Leme map. Food, fashion, live music, dance and craft beer. From 1pm to 10pm.
- Dresden Philharmonic
For those who like classic music, the Dresden Philharmonic will be in Rio for a single performance. Venue: Municipal Theatre. Time: 8pm. There’s only a few spots left. Tickest can be bought here.
From September 5th until September 9th, check out the Mondial de la Bière event at Pier Mauá. This is a beer festival with live music, food stands and different attractions every day. It’s really fun. Tickets from R$60 to R$120 can be bought here.
From the same creators of Rock in Rio, Game XP is a huge game convention in Rio de Janeiro. From September 6th until September 9th, join gamers from all over the world for this amazing experience. Game XP is a Game Park where you can have fun and immersive experiences from the perspective of technology. Tickets ranging from R$65 (single entry) to R$300 (family entry) can be bought here. This is a rave in Vargem Pequena, near Barra da Tijuca. The line up starts at 11pm on September 6th and goes on until 6pm on September 7th (public holiday in Brazil). Lots of electronic music and fun. Venue: Sítio das Pedras, Vargem Pequena map. Buy tickets here.
- Death Fish Concert
If you like heavy metal, you may like this Brazilian band. They’re one of the biggest heavy metal bands in Brazil and have been around since 1991. Venue: Circo Voador, Lapa map. Tickets are only R$50 if you bring 1kg of food to be donated. Buy it here.
- Urca Rock Beer Fest
Food, fashion, craft beer, art, live music and more. Free event. Venue: Praça General Tibúrcio, Urca map. From 2pm to 11pm. Free event.
The Treta party happens all year long in different parts of Brazil and it’s very popular among the LGBT community. This time in Rio, the party is called Tretona and features drag queen Lia Clark, a carioca funk singer. Prices from R$30 to R$60. Buy tickets here. Venue: Circo Voador, Lapa map.
- Baile do Madrugadão
Great opportunity if you want to go to a traditional carioca funk party. This edition of Baile do Madrugadão is happening in Paiol 08, in Lapa map. Tickets are only R$20 can can be bought online or in one of the stores listed here.
- Urca Jazz Beer Fest
Same event as the one from September 7th, but this time featuring Jazz music instead of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$50.
- Fluminense vs. Botafogo
Two of the biggest football teams of Rio and competing against each other for the Brazilian Championship. Watch Fluminense vs. Botafogo at Maracanã Stadium and be part of the carioca culture. Tickets are not being sold yet, but you can keep an eye on this website for more information when they’re avaiable.
- Corrida do Samba
5k and 10k run in Aterro do Flamengo. You need to sign up before the event and get your running kit from the organizers. Click here for more information.
This edition is celebrating 10 years of the Base party. This time at Pier Mauá, where all good alternative parties take place, Base promisses to bring the best of electronic and black music to Rio de Janeiro. Tickets can be bought here.
American band Sublime with Rome is on tour through Latin America and is stopping by Rio de Janeiro for a fun night. The band is also celebration 20 years of Sublime. Tickets ranging from R$90 to R$700 can be bought here. Venue: HUB RJ map.
This event is promissing to showcase more than 30 breweries, 40 gastronomic options (food trucks, food bikes and food stalls), beer games, brewery tour, workshops and more. The event is taking place at Quinta da Boa Vista, which is also a great place to spend a chill weekend. Gastro Beer Rio happens on September 15th and September 16th, from 1pm to 9pm. It’s free.
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$50.
If you like musical theater, this is the event for you. This is the Brazilian adaptation for musical Beauty and the Beast and the actors playing the parts are well-known among the theater industry. Venue: Vivo Rio. Prices: From R$120 to R$220. Tickets being sold here or directly at Vivo Rio map before the play.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Frame de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
- Costume Party in Glória
Great party if you like to have fun while dressed up in costumes. Live music, open bar from midnight until 1am and free props for the first 500 people there. Tickets and more information here. Venue: Festas Bella Vista Rio, Glória map.

3k, 5k and 10k run in Copacabana. Sign up on their website.
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$50.
- Sailing Trip to Cagarras Islands
Sail around Guanabara bay and enjoy its marvelous views. Continue through the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema to the Cagarras islands where we will spend the day swimming and snorkeling. - Canta Niterói
This is a huge music festival that usually happens once or twice a year in Niterói, a smaller city just across the Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro. For the line up, the biggest names of the Brazilian music: Ivete Sangalo, Simone & Simaria, Anitta, Ferrugem, Sorriso Maroto, Dilsinho and many more. The event starts at 10am and goes on all day long. There are a few different types of tickets being sold — options with open bar and VIP areas.
