There are lots of great events in Rio de Janeiro during the month of October. You can go to a musical theater, attend a street fair or run a marathon. There’s something for everyone.
- Buster Keaton – The world is a circus
For this film exhibition, almost 50 movies and short movies of American actor, director, producer and screenwriter Buster Keaton will be showcased in CCBB museum until October 14th. Buster Keaton was one of the most important screenwriters in the history of cinema and was best known for his silent films. Entrance is only R$10 and you can check the complete program here. CCBB is located in Centro, at Rua Primeiro de Março, 66 map.
- Chaplin, the Musical
If you like musical theater, this might be a good choice. From October 5th to October 7th you can attend Chaplin, the Musical at Teatro Riachuelo map. Friday and Saturday, 8pm; extra session Satuday, 4pm; Sunday 5pm. Prices ranging from R$25 to R$150 can be bought here.
The hike to Pedra da Gávea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. - Urca Blues Beer Fest
From 1pm to 11pm, Praça General Tiburcio map in Urca will be hosting a Blues Festival with live music, dance, food and art stands, craft beer and more. Free event.
During October 6th and 7th, Gávea is hosting a great craft beer event. More than 10 breweries are confirmed to be attending the event, where you also can enjoy some live music. The event is happening at Jockey Club’s gardens and on Saturday you can also check the horse racing inside the club. Brewgarden RJ has free entry and happens from 1pm to 11pm. Have a German day at Parque das Ruínas in Santa Teresa this September. Lots of attractions for kids and also more than ten traditional food stands. Aso in the event, film and photo exhibition, German classes, live music, DJs, puppet theater, among other activities. Easiest way to get there is getting an Uber or taxi. Free entry. From 10am to 6pm.
Boat Pary organized by students of PUC University. Open bar and a great line up of DJs. Get there as early as 3pm. Boat will leave the marina at 3:30pm. Tickets can be bought here for R$70. Departuring from Marina da Glória map and going around the Guanabara bay, returning at 9pm.
- Urca Samba Jazz Beer
Live jazz and samba music in Urca. From 1pm to 11pm. Adress: Praça General Tiburcio map. Also in the event, food and art stands, craft beer, fashion and more. Free event.
- Botafogo vs Vasco – Football Game
Both Botafogo and Vasco are big football teams in Rio competing for a good score at the Brazilian Championship. The venue for this game is Engenhão, the Olympic Stadium map. Tickets are not being sold yet, but you can keep an eye on Botafogo’s website starting a few days before the game.
- Madrugada no Centro
This is a traditional party in Centro, in the parking lot of CCBB museum. The place will be packed with Cariocas having fun! If you want to mix up with the locals, this is the place for you. Live music with Marcelo D2, Hodari, Afrojazz and DJs playing during the breaks. Tickets available online.
Rouge is like the Brazilian’s Spice Girls, an all girl’s band that was a big success during the 00s and now are back playing on this huge party all over Brazil. Chá da Alice is a popular brand of parties that always means full house and good attractions. To celebrate the reunion of Rouge, they have created Chá Rouge, having the second edition in Rio de Janeiro this month. As a foreigner, you may not really know Rouge, but we guarantee this is a great party to go. Prices ranging from R$70 to R$380 can be bought here. Venue: Vivo Rio map.
- Circuito Cervejeiro
Praça General Tiburcio map in Urca is know for its street fairs. This is one of them — food trucks, stands, craft beer, street food, fashion, art and culture at the same place. Great event for a lazy day. From 11am to 9pm.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$50.
- 4k run
To celebrate Outubro Rosa (Pink October), raising awareness for breast cancer, this free 4k run is happening in Quinta da Boa Vista. Just wear pink and join the run. From 7:30am to 10:30am.
- Samba at Vidigal
Enjoy a delicious ‘feijoada’ while on a great party in Vidigal. Great food, live samba playing and one of the most beautifil views in Rio de Janeiro. Can’t get more carioca than that. Go to their Facebook event to learn more information about the different prices and the easiest way to get there.
- Holi Party Color Fest
Color fest in Rio de Janeiro. 10 hours of music, color poweder and lots of fun. Prices were not disclosed yet, but you can check their event on Facebook for more information later. Venue: Estrada do Mato Alto, 4316 – Guaratiba map.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
Petrópolis might be a bit far away for you to go just to attent a party, but we think it’s worth it. You can always take the opportunity and spend a weekend in Petrópolis and get to know this amazing small city. Anyway… Petrópolis has this awesome Castle that hosts huge parties now and then. And this is one of them. Halloween party with premium open bar, from 9pm to 5am. Price: R$250 + R$50 (bus leaving from Lagoa – optional). Tickets can be bought here.
- Sat-Venture – Forest & Waterfall Hike Tour
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$50.
- Natiruts concert
If you like raggae music, this is an event for you. Natiruts is one of the biggest raggae music bands in Brasil. They’re doing this concert at Morro da Urca, with a great view of Rio de Janeiro. Prices ranging from R$300 to R$4,000 including the cable car to go there can be bought here.

- Lagoa Rock Beer Fest
Street event in Lagoa with live rock music, food trucks, craft beer, fashion and more. Free event. From 1pm to 11:30pm.
Pink Floyd’s visionary founder Roger Waters is coming to Brazil with his new Us+Them world tour. The venue for his concert is the famous Maracanã Stadium. Prices are ranging from R$110 to R$720 and can be bought online here. Concert will start at 9pm with gates opening at 5pm.
- Sertanejo in Rio
Many foreigners that come to Rio fall in love with Sertanejo music — the Brazilian country music. If you’re one of these people, this Sertanejo fest is a good choice for you. Henrique & Juliano are doing a concert in Vivo Rio and prices are ranging from R$260 to R$360. You can buy tickets here.
- Sat-Venture – Niterói Bike & Boat Tour
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$50.
