- Baile da Princesa
Carioca funk event in Maracanãzinho, or Maracanã Arena, the smaller stadium near Maracanã. If you enjoy the carioca culture and the Brazilian funk music, this event is a good opportunity to have fun. For the line up, big names such as Rennan da Penha, Buchecha and DJ Tubarão. Prices starting at R$50 can be bought here.Time of the event: 10pm.
This music festival reunites a lot of everything — House, Disco, Techno, Rap, Funk, R&B, Hip Hop and more. And the best thing: it’s a free event! Venue: NAU – Núcleo de Ativação Urbana, Passeio Público Ernesto Nazareth map.
- Doce ou Travessura – Museu Assombrado
Halloween is not a tradition in Brazil, so if you’re looking for a good party, this might be a good choice. The venue for this event is MAM, the Modern Art Museum at Aterro do Flamengo map, which is very known for hosting big parties in Rio de Janeiro. For the attractions, lots of carnaval music and DJs playing all kinds of rhythms. - Jazz at The Maze
If you like jazz music, The Maze is always the right choice for you. The Maze brings you the most traditional Jazz night in Rio de Janeiro every first Friday of the month. - Dia de Los Muertos
Bar Bukowski in Botafogo is hosting this great party with lots of tequila, Rock n’ Roll and Mexican traditions. Price: R$55 at the door. Time of the event: 9pm – 6am. Address: Rua Álvaro Ramos, 270.
The hike to Pedra da Gávea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. Caminhos Tours in promoting incredible tours every Saturday of the month for only R$95.
- Urca Rock Beer Fest
Food, fashion, craft beer, art, live music and more. Venue: Praça General Tibúrcio, Urca map. From 2pm to 11pm. Free event.
This is going to be epic!! Free Formula 1 event in Botafogo. Racing cars, acrobatic motorcycles, drift racing and more. Felipe Massa will be riding his car live at Enseada de Botafogo. Live music from Preta Gil, Fatnotronic and DJs Tropkillaz. The event starts at 9am, so get there early to enjoy everything.
- Vienna Chamber Orchestra

- Urca Bossa Nova

- Festival Gastro Galáctica
From November 8th until November 11th, Planetário da Gávea (Gávea Planetarium) is hosting an amazing event mixing food, music and astronomy. Food stands of the best bars and restaurants in Rio are confirmed for the event, as well as guided visits to the Museum of the Universe and sky observations. Live music and DJs are in charge of the entertainment. Check the full program on Facebook. Event starts at noon.
- Lagoa Blues Festival
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$95.
- O Fuxico Feira Ipanema
This street fair promisses a lot of nice food and fashion stands for people to enjoy. Also, craft beer, art, design, live music and culture. All in one place. November 10th and 11th, at Praça Nossa Senhora da Paz in Ipanema map.
- Bloco Tome Conta de Mim!
Carnaval is still a bit far away, but while in Rio it’s always time to party. This ‘bloco‘ is very famous in Rio de Janeiro and a lot of locals will be attending the festivities. Satrting at 6pm at Rua do Mercado, 23 – Centro.
A true carioca event, Carioquíssima reunites the best of food, fashion, art and décor in Rio. Its 29th edition will take place in Urca for two days, from November 10th to November 11th, from 12pm to 9pm.
- Samba do Leblon
Free event in Leblon. Live samba music, food stands and fun for a Sunday afternoon. Starts at 1pm. Venue: Praça Antero de Quental map.
From the producers of big samba events in Rio, Sunset Samba is bringing music together with the beautiful sunset of Rio de Janeiro. It’s an outdoor event, so be aware that if it rains, the event will be cancelled. Venue: Av. Almirante Sílvio de Noronha, near Bossa Nova Mall map. Price: R$35 at the door.
- Yoga at Praça Paris
An outdoor yoga class at Praça Paris in Glória map. The class is open to all public, you just need to bring water, comfortable clothes and a yoga mat or rug. They don’t have a fixed price for the class, they just ask you to donate whatever amount you can. You don’t need to sign up, just show up for the class at 10am. More info: [email protected]
- Flamengo vs. Santos at Maracanã
Good opportunity to visit the Maracanã Stadium, as Flamengo, the biggest football team in Rio de Janeiro, is playing against Santos for the Brazilian Championship. You can find information on where to buy tickets on Flamengo’s website. You need to buy the tickets beforehand, so don’t wait until last minute. The game starts at 5pm.
- Bar DuZé
Bar DuZé is a famous samba party in Rio. It happens a few times a year and this is one of them. It usually gets pretty crowdy. Tickets online ranging from R$50 to R$150 can be bought here. Main attraction: Mumuzinho. Venue: MAM map. Starts at 3pm.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$95.
- VillaMix – Music Festival
Villa Mix started as a Sertanejo festival, but it soon became one of biggest music festivals in Brazil, with international singers, pop divas and funk attractions joining past editions. This time in Rio, VillaMix is bringing DJ Alok, Jorge & Mateus, Gusttavo Lima, Kevinho, Sorriso Maroto and many other attractions to its main stage. There are different types of tickets and you can find all of them on their official website. Tickets: R$70 to R$1,620. Venue: Olympic Park map. Time: 12pm.
The Jazz Mansion is a touring project to promote jazz music in historical mansions around Brazil. For two and a half years they passed through countless houses in São Paulo and had more than 30 artists joining them. For the second time in Rio, the event promises jazz concerts and presentations of other genres influenced by the style. Venue: Espaço Vieira Souto – Av. Vieira Souto, 234 – Ipanema map. Tickets: R$40 can be bought here. Time of the event: 4pm.
- Forró do Arpoador
Food, fashion, craft beer, art and more. Live forró starting at 5pm. Venue: Praça Garota de Ipanema, Arpoador map. Free event.
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$95.
Caminhos Language Centre is partnering with The Rio Times and Mango Tree Hostel Ipanema to feed the homeless people in Rio. They will be making ‘food packages’ and distributing them to as many homeless people in Rio as they can find. They urgently need help if you would like to donate money/food or volunteer your time.
