- Latin Party
Latin pop, funk, reggaeton, parreo, cumbia, kizomba, hip-hop, cachengue and other latin rhythms are going to make this night memorable if you like to dance all night away! The event is free if you put your name on their list on Facebook. Venue: Pub Kariok in Centro map.
- Samba das Laranjeiras
It’s Labor Day in Brazil on May 1st and the city will be packed up with events everywhere. If you like samba, Samba das Laranjeiras is the right choice. Live samba and fun for this open-air event in Rio de Janeiro. R$40 at the door or R$20 if you put your name on their list on Facebook. Time: from 5pm until midnight. Venue: Rua das Laranjeiras, 540. Be advised: they accept credit and debit card at the bar but entrance can only be paid in cash.
- Paquetá Beer Fest
Paquetá is a small island located in the middle of the Guanabara Bay. It’s a small and calm neighbourhood great for tourism and relaxed times. On May 4th and 5th, Paquetá will host an awesome beer festival with food stands, live music and lots of attractions. The event starts at 10am and goes on until 9pm. To get there, you need to take the ferry boat at Praça XV in Centro map — it costs R$6,30 each way and the event is R$35 at the door. Over there, you can enjoy a relaxed time and also visit a new place in Rio.
- Europe Day
Music, art, food and lots of international attractions. Different workshops all day long, such as French, German and Italian classes, dance workshops, live music and a lot more. Venue: Praça Luis de Camões map. Starting at 12pm.
- Circuito Interno Bhering
Circuito Interno Bhering is like a big fair with everything you can think of. Fashion brands, shops, food, drinks and music — tons of attractions spread over six floors of this amazing old building. The venue for this is the old Bhering Factory, in Santo Cristo neighbourhood, near Centro (Rua Orestes, 28 map). A good choice to spend a relaxed Saturday afternoon. From 1pm to 8pm. Free entrance.
The Lavradio Fair — Feira Rio Antigo — is a popular street market in Rio de Janeiro that takes place on the first Saturday of every month in the Lavradio Street, Centro. It’s the perfect place to find good jewellery, cheap and nice clothing, antique shops and more.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
- Samba nas Ruínas
Great “roda de samba” at Parque das Ruínas, in Santa Teresa map. Join great samba and with a great vibe in this awesome place in Rio de Janeiro. Entrance is R$40 at the door. Event starts at 6pm.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$95.
- Sailing Trip to Cagarras Islands
Sail around Guanabara Bay and enjoy its marvellous views. Continue through the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema to the Cagarras islands where we will spend the day swimming and snorkelling. This is a full day trip, leaving Urca at 11am and returning at 7pm. This trip repeats every Saturday, so you can just check when it’s best for you. Price: R$295 (drinks and snacks included). - Bar DuZé
Bar DuZé is a famous samba party in Rio. It happens a few times a year and this is one of them. It usually gets pretty crowdy. Tickets online ranging from R$60 to R$120 can be bought here. Main attraction: Mumuzinho. Where: Joá neighbourhood (venue yet to be confirmed.) 9 map. Starts at 2pm.
- Shell Open Air
For 17 years Open Air has been a great event in Brazill, celebrating cinema! Join the live the experience in which cinema, music, gastronomy and interactive activities come together in the open air! The Super Screen, the size of a tennis court, is the main protagonist, but the digital projection and sound system also make the sessions a unique moment. For three weeks, starting on May 15th, different famous movies will be playing in this festival, including Bohemian Rapsody, Matrix, How To Train Your Dragons, Grease, Aquaman, A Star is Born and much more. - Gafieira nas Ruínas
If you don’t know what Samba de Gafieira is, you should look it up and join this event. DJs will be playing the best of samba, forró, salsa and zouk. Bring a partner to dance along and have fun. The event is being held at Parque das Ruínas, an old mansion that now hosts cultural events. Tickets: R$20 can be bought here. More information: Facebook.
- Festeja 2019
Festeja is a big music festival that happens all over Brazil and brings together top Brazilian artists for a whole day of live concerts. This time in Rio, confirmed attractions are Zé Neto e Cristiano, Marilia Mendonça, Dilsinho, Léo Santana, Ferrugem, Maiara e Maraisa, Ludmilla and Cat Dealers. The first concert starts at 5pm. Tickets can be bought here, ranging from R$50 to R$360. The venue for the event is Parque Olímpico in Barra map.
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$95.
- National Ballet of China
From May 23rd until May 26th, the National Ballet of China is presenting their show Red Lanterns at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro. Prices are ranging from R$50 to R$120. Tickets can be bought here.
FestRioBeer is a gastronomy and music festival that brings to Rio de Janeiro more than 50 types of craft beers from different Brazilian breweries. They will also have a food court with food trucks, stalls and various exhibitors. They will bring together brewers and representatives of award-winning craft beers from all over Brazil, as well as offering a music festival with more than 3 live bands performing on their stage. - A Rua É Nossa
Street fair with art, food, drinks, fashion and live music. The event is free and starts at 10pm. Venue: Passeio Ernesto Nazareth map.
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center, you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$95.
- Festa Junina da Lagoa
A traditional Festa Junina party, which celebrates the country life and traditions. There will be lots of traditional food, dance, music, clothing and games. If you have never been to a Festa Junina party, this is a great opportunity to get to know this awesome party in Brazil. From May 31st until June 2nd. Free entrance. Friday: 4pm-11pm, Saturday and Sunday: 12pm-11pm. Venue: Lagoon map.
