June brings to Rio de Janeiro the delight of the Festa Junina parties, which celebrate the country life and Saints John, Antony and Peter. There are great events all over the city if you want to enjoy the so traditional festivities. Festa Juninas are great to eat good food, dance to good music and have lots of fun! Don’t miss out!
Samba da Ouvidor is a famous ‘roda de samba’ in Rio de Janeiro. It usually happens on the corner of Ouvidor and Mercado Streets in Centro. Now, Samba do Ouvidor finds a new home at HUB map, also in Centro. The event starts at 4pm and you can buy tickets here for R$30.
This event is for those who like basketball and its culture. Budweiser is sponsoring the event, which will feature live music with DJs, Rap battles, live concerts and much more. For the games, women and men’s 1×1 competitions will choose the best 3 in each category to go to São Paulo for the final championship. The event is free and you can just show up, but if you want to compete in basketball or rap battle, you need to sign up here. Venue: Basketball court in Aterro do Flamengo map. Time of the event: starting at 3pm until 10pm.
- Clean Up the Beach
If you are looking for volunteer opportunities this weekend, join our friends at Caminhos Language Centre and Amigos do Mar Rio de Janeiro to clean up Praia de Botafogo. They will meet at Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema at 9:00 am and carpool over to the beach. Bring gloves, trash bags, water and money to cover the costs for your own transportation. - Sertanejo in Rio
Many foreigners have fallen in love with Brazilin country music while in Rio de Janeiro. If you are one of them, you will love this Sertanejo Music Festival. This time, the main attractions are duo Zé Neto & Cristiano and singer João Gabriel. Tickets ranging from R$90 to R$360 can be found here. The venue for this event is Vivo Rio map and it starts at 10pm.
The Lavradio Fair — Feira Rio Antigo — is a popular street market in Rio de Janeiro that takes place on the first Saturday of every month in the Lavradio Street, Centro. It’s the perfect place to find good jewelry, cheap and nice clothing, antique shops and more.
The hike to Pedra da Gávea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. - Botafogo vs. Vasco Football Game
Two big teams in Rio de Janeiro are competing during the Brazilian championship. The venue for the game is the Olympic Stadium map. Tickets are ranging from R$20 to R$310 on Botafogo’s website. The game starts at 11am but make sure to get there earlier to avoid lines.
- La Fiesta! Latin Party
This Latin party in Zona Sul promises lots of salsa, reggaeton, cumbia and bachata music all night long. 2 for 1 drinks all night and free beer and caipirinha until midnight. Price: R$50 at the door. Venue: New Mariuzinn Nightclub (Av. Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, 435 – Copacabana).
- Festa Junina do Arpoador
From June 7th until June 9th, be part of a traditional Festa Junina in Ipanema. Traditional food stands, live forró music playing, games and more. Make sure to drink the traditional “quentão” — a hot alcoholic beverage — and eat traditional foods, such as corn on the cob, curau, pamonha, and other delicious treats. They will also host a quadrilha, which a famous group dance during Festa Juninas. The event starts at 5pm on Friday and 7pm on Saturday and Sundays. Venue: Parque Garota de Ipanema map. Free entry.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
A true carioca event, Carioquíssima reunites the best of food, fashion, art, décor and photography in Rio. This edition will have the Festa Junina theme and is being held at Morro da Urca for two days, June 8th and 9th, from 10am to 8pm. To get there, you’ll need to buy a ticket for the Sugarloaf’s first stop or take the hike there for free.
- Wine Lovers Festival
The Wine Lovers Festival will be held together with the 87th GP Brazil of horse racing. In addition to the racing, DJs will be playing and craft beers and food trucks will be available. Of course, a great variety of wines will be displayed as well. Free entry.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$95.
- 3R Festival
Rock, rap and reggae music festival. Great Brazilian bands are playing at this big festival taking place in Niterói. Line up: Natiruts, Pitty, Jota Quest, Onze 20, Costa Gold and more. Prices starting at R$70. Time: 12pm. Buy tickets here.
- Disney on Ice
This event is not only for kids, everyone that goes to a Disney on Ice presentation gets fascinated about the high level of ice skating and production of the whole show. This time in Rio, the Disney on Ice Dream Big tour is being held at Jeunesse Arena in Barra from June 12th until June 16th. Prices are ranging from R$40 to R$300 and can be bought here.
Watch the games of Copa América while having fun at live concerts afterward. On June 14th, Brazil is playing against Bolívia and Terraço Lagoa is hosting a great party for you. On June 18th the event is back again with the screening of Brazil vs. Venezuela and on June 22th, Brazil vs. Peru. Do if you like football and good parties, this is the right place for you. - Arena Nº1 Brahma
If you are looking for a place to watch the games mentioned above for free, Arena Nº1 Brahma is the place for you. A big arena is being set up at Centro (Praça Mauá map) where Brahma is putting up huge screens for the game. Also, free concerts with Xande de Pilares, Thiago Martins and Ludmila will harm up the days Brazil is playing. Be aware to check the time of the game so you know what time the area will be open. - Queremos! Festival
Queremos is a music festival that celebrates musical diversity, bringing together the hottest Brazilian artists with an international selection curated by the Queremos! team. For this edition, more than 10 artists are confirmed in the festival, including Gal Costa, Criolo, Duda Beat, Forró Red Light, Allie X, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and much more. Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$95.

Monobloco is a Carnaval band very famous in Brazil and their concerts are usually great and very fun. They are asking people to wear plaid shirts and straw hats this time so they get into the Festa Junina vibe. Tickets are R$100 and you can buy them here. The event starts at 10pm.
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center, you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$95.
- Festa Junina de Colégio
Planetário da Gáva map is hosting a true Festa Junina featuring everything it supposed to have: quadrilha dance, country wedding, kissing booth, a forró band, food stands and decorations. The party starts at 2pm and goes on until 10pm. They will also have an after-party at a nearby nightclub. The price you pay for the ticket includes everything. It’s R$95 by the door or you can have a huge discount buying it online for R$45. This event is organized by a group of schools and universities in Rio, so lots of young people will be there.
- Move 4 Cancer 2019
This is a run against cancer marathon in Rio de Janeiro. All profits go to Instituto do Câncer Arnaldo Vieira de Carvalho, a free hospital that helps people with cancer in Rio. You can sign up here. You can join the 5K or 10K marathon or the 5k walk. The starting line is in front of Monumento dos Pracinhas in Flamengo map.
- Festa Junina da Lagoa
Keeping up with Festa Juninas around Rio de Janeiro, Logoa is hostings its own festivities at Lagoon map. Food stands, craft breweries, live concerts, art, dance and much more. Starting at 5pm.
