February is the month of Carnival. Officially, carnival is from February 9th after 2pm until February 14th at 2pm (read here our guide on how to prepare yourself in the best way for Carnival in Rio de Janeiro). But believe us, there is Carnival celebration all month long. If you like street parties, Rio de Janeiro is the right place for you. If you like to watch the beauty of the samba schools, you’re also in the right place. And if you like good nightclubs, Rio for sure have great parties during this time of the year. But if you like peace and quiet… Well, then it’s best to leave Rio during February. Here are the best events in Rio de Janeiro during the month of February!
- Sertanejo party
Sertanejo (Brazilian country music) is a big deal in Rio de Janeiro. For this party in one of the biggest nightclubs in Rio, All In, they will have live music, DJs and also funk music playing all night long. All In is also known to be one of the favorite nightclubs for foreigners in Rio. Girls can get in for free if they put their names on a list on Facebook. For men, the price is R$30 until midnight or R$50 after that.
During February 2nd to February 4th, Parque dos Patins in Lagoa is hosting an event called Praça in Rio. With lots of DJs every day and live music, this outdoor event will also have food trucks, craft beers and lots of fun! More information on Facebook.
- Jazz Night The Maze
It is time for the famous Jazz Night in The Maze again. Located in the favela Tavares Bastos, this is the place to be every first Friday of the month! Awesome place, nice vibe and all in all a great experience. More information on Facebook.
- Bloco Chora Me Liga
The most famous Sertanejo bloco in Rio. They bring thousands of people to the streets every year, mixing carnival and Brazilian country music. Place: Aterro do Flamengo, near MAM map. Music starts at 7am and the parade starts at 9am. The celebration ends at 1pm.
Fashion brands, shops, food, drinks and music. The right choice to spend a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Circuito Interno Bhering is like a big fair with everything you can think of. The venue for this is the old Bhering Factory, in Santo Cristo neighborhood, near Centro (Rua Orestes, 28 map). Free entrance. From 1pm to 8pm.
- Carnaval dos Sonhos at Maracanã (Electronic Day)
A 3-day music festival in the biggest stadium of Brazil, the world-famous Maracanã. From February 9th to February 11th. On this day: Vintage Culture, Chemical Surf, Bruno Be, RDT and more. Tickets ranging from R$110 to R$430. Package for 3 days: From R$300 to R$1200.

- Banda de Ipanema
A huge bloco in Ipanema — a very famous one since 1965. Meeting at Praça General Osório at 4pm and leaving for the parade at 5:30pm. Banda de Ipanema is also going to parade again on February 13th.
If you trying to escape carnival and samba music, Lavradio Street in Centro is hosting a 4-day Jazz Fest from February 10th to February 13th. Venue: Santo Scenarium – Rua do Lavradio, 36 – Lapa map. Free event. From 1pm to 7pm.
Carnival and carioca funk mixed together. Baile da Favorita is the biggest and most famous funk party in Rio, that usually happens in Rocinha. Their bloco, Bloco da Favorita, always brings lots of people to the streets. It is a huge street party. Don’t bring anything of value with you because the streets are as crowded as Reveillon in Copacabana. Where: Copacabana Beach, starting at 8am.
- Samba Schools’ parade – First day of the Grupo Especial
Samba schools parading today: Império Serrano, São Clemente, Vila-Isabel, Paraíso do Tuiuti, Grande Rio, Mangueira and Mocidade. Prices are ranging from R$5 to R$300. Venue: Sambódromo Marquês de Sapucaí map. Time: Starting at 9:15pm going until 4:45am. More information: LIESA website.
- Carnaval dos Sonhos at Maracanã
- Simpatia É Quase Amor
Another famous bloco in Rio. No time was chosen yet, but you can keep an eye on their Facebook Page.
Preta Gil is a famous Brazilian singer. Her bloco is well known and everyone likes it. This is not her official parade, that usually happens in Centro. For this time, Preta Gil is also inviting two big names of the Brazilian music scene to sing with her: Pabllo Vittar and Jojo Toddynho. They’re going to make a big party at Clube Monte Líbano in Lagoa map. Tickets from R$60 to R$270 can be bought here.
- Samba Schools’ parade – Second day of the Grupo Especial
Samba schools parading today: Unidos da Tijuca, Portela, União da Ilha, Salgueiro, Imperatriz Leopoldinense and Beija-Flor. Prices are ranging from R$5 to R$300. Venue: Sambódromo Marquês de Sapucaí map. Time: Starting at 9:15pm going until 3:30am. More information: LIESA website.
- Forever Tel Aviv
LGBT party in the most famous gay nightclub in Rio. Line Up: DJs Micky Friedmann, Dani Brasil, Leandro Becker and Renato Cecin. Address: Rua Sacadura Cabral, 135 map. Starting at 11pm.
Venue: Cobal do Humaitá – Rua Voluntários da Pátria, 446. Time: From 3pm to 9pm. Prices were not disclosed, but you pay at the door.
Carioca funk party with the father of funk: Mr. Catra. The venue for this place, Palaphita Gávea is one of the best nightclubs in Rio, with an awesome view of the Christ the Redeemer. Before Mr. Catras concert, DJs will be playing house, trance, hip-hop and black music. Prices ranging from R$30 to R$100. Tickets available here.
More than 10 food trucks and 6 beer breweries will be a part of this event. Great place if you like good food and drinks. From February 16th to February 18th, from 12pm to 10pm at Praça Garota de Ipanema, in Arpoador. Also, live music: samba, jazz and Bossa Nova. Free event.
- Samba Schools’ parade – Champions’ parade
The winner and the first 5 runner-ups of the 2018 Carnival present themselves on Saturday for the Champions’ parade. Prices are ranging from R$5 to R$300. Venue: Sambódromo Marquês de Sapucaí map. Time: Starting at 9:15pm going until 3:30am. More information: LIESA website.
Great bloco to enjoy Carnaval. Where: Rua Primeiro de Março – Centro. Meeting point: in front of CCBB map, at 9am.
Fosfobox is a great nightclub that hosts parties every day of the week during Summer season in Rio. Classic nightclub vibe — DJs playing electronic, funk, pop and hip-hop music. - Meditation Workshop
After the craziness of Carnaval, some of you may want to slow down to get back to the normal rhythm, so maybe this meditation workshop in Centro is a nice option. The workshop lasts all day long, from 9am to 5pm and costs R$300. More information here
