Normally we make a list with all the best events of the upcoming week for you. Sadly we have no list for you this week. To prevent spreading of the coronavirus in Rio, the state government is taking action. One of the measurements is the cancellation of events that bring together groups of people from Monday on. A lot of event organizations are also already canceling their events for this weekend.
For the events that are not marked as cancelled yet in this weekends list down here, we advise you to have a look at their Facebook page before going to check what the actual situation is. This post was last updated on Saturday morning the 14th of March.
Saturday March 14th
Sambinha da Gigoia CANCELLED
A great Samba party in the garden of a house at Gigoia island. Officially the party starts at 15 hours, but we advice to arrive around 17 hours. It goes on till after midnight. If you arrive before 18h the entrance is free. This is great to combine with an afternoon visit to the island which is located just behind the Jardim Oceanico metro station. Samba dos Guimaraes CANCELLED
This is one of the most popular Samba parties in Rio. It is held at an old mansion in Santa Tereza. The party starts at 19.30 hours and goes on until 1.30 hours. If you put your name on the friend list the entrance is 25 R$. For more info take a look at the Facebook page. We advise you to by Uber, because at night it is not always safe to wander around Santa Tereza. map
Rock 80 Festival
This weekend there is the free Rock 80 festival next to the Lagoa (the big lake) at Parque dos Figueiras. map It’s a festival with lots of rock tribute bands, BBQ, food trucks, beer trucks, lounge area, a special kids area and more. It’s a three-day festival. Friday til Sunday. Friday it starts at 17 hours and Saturday and Sunday at 14 hours. Every day it goes on till 22 hours. Sunday March 15th
Feira Popular da Glória
This is a popular Sunday market in the neigborhood Gloria. There will be food, art and live forro and samba music. It starts at 10 and in the morning and goes on untill 10 in the evening. The market is held a short walk from the Gloria metro station. map
Samba da Urca CANCELLED
A great samba party with a great view. Listen to live Samba music while enjoying the view of Praia Vermelha, the Sugarloaf mountain and all the beautiful people around you. The party is held next to Praia Vermelha on the rooftop terrace of the Circulo Militar building. map It starts at 18.00 hours and goes on until 1.00 hours at night. The entrance is R$ 35, but if you put your name on the friend list and come before 19.00 hours it’s cheaper. For more info take a look at the Facebook page.
