Hard rain has cooled Rio down a bit, it has also made the water scarcity problem less imminent. The forecast is for more wet days. A cyclone can potentially create severe problems, if you hear sirens; go to higher ground.
We are close to Carnival, this means there are street parties almost everyday (rain or not!)
This time of the year the samba schools of Rio have their rehearsal parties, most of them on Friday and Saturday nights. In sambódromo on Sunday, last years champions Unidos da Tijuca, will perform a light and sound check; starts around 20h.
The local cups start on Saturday. Just follow this link: Globo Esportes and you can get the schedule.
The next one or two years traffic in the center of Rio will be complicated during rush hours, big constructions in the port area are the main reasons.
It’s January now so the city is full of street parties and other fun things to do. At this time of the year Lapa is crowded, especially on weekends. As always in big crowds here, remember there are lots of pick pocket artists and robbers so don’t bring valuables. The best nightlife guide in English is The Rio Times Nightlife Guide, just click the link.
Fruits of the week:
Avocados, plums, custard apples, guavas, apples and pears are good choices.
