Rio de Janeiro Real Estate

Are you interested in buying Rio de Janeiro real estate? Many foreigners come to Rio and fall in love with the city so they want to buy an apartment they can stay in when they come the next time. Or maybe as an investment? Renting out and letting the market price go up.

Prices
The relative price for Rio de Janeiro real estate has gone up. The reason is that the Brazilian Real has strenghtened itself a lot the last few years. The change 2005 until 2008 was about 40% to the U$. On top of that, like almost every where else in the world: the actual market price has gone up as well. Some areas are still affordable though, for instance in Arpoador you can find a small studio apartment for around 75000 U$; in Stockholm that wouldn´t get you far!

The Procedure
It is not hard to buy an apartment here as a foreigner; What you need is patience, good judgement and a good lawyer. Many try to avoid paying a certain type of tax by not making the transfer of money official, that can be very risky! Your transaction should be made via Banco do Brasil from your country and the deposit made to an account in a Brazilian Bank. The purchase has to be registered proper. In order to be sure all your paper work is right you need a good lawyer.

Who To Trust?
