Carnival officially started in Brazil, and if you are looking for the best street parties in Rio de Janeiro, check this blog post first. In the list below, we are sharing with you some other great events in the Marvellous City for you to enjoy the whole month of March!
- Museu Nacional Vive
After the big fire that destroyed the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro last year, CCBB map is bringing back more than 100 items that were recovered from the disaster for an amazing exposition. There you will find a piece of meteorite that crashed in Brazil in 1922, taxidermied birds, some animal skulls, as well as collections of Dom Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina. The exposition will be there until April 29th, from Wednesday to Monday, from 9am until 9pm. Free entry.
- Samba & Pagode at Terreirão do Samba
Very close to the sambadrome (where the samba school parade from Friday until Monday), is Terreirão do Samba, a place for samba parties in Rio de Janeiro. During Carnaval, Terrirão is hosting great samba and pagode events at night. For March 1st, Grupo Pixote, Sorriso Maroto, Samba Bom and others are among the attractions. The event starts at 8pm and costs R$20.
- Rio Music Carnival
From March 1st until March 5th, Marina da Glória map is the hottest place for great electronic music parties in Rio de Janeiro. You can enjoy the street parties during the day and go there for more partying during the evening. Prices are ranging from R$88 to R$410 depending on the day and the type of ticket you want. You can buy the tickets online here. Attractions include Vintage Culture, Illusionize, Dennis DJ, Cat Dealers and more.
MAM map is bringing together a lot of ‘blocos de carnaval’ so you can enjoy the craziest season in Rio de Janeiro in just one place. Price is R$10 for regular entry or R$30 for backstage entrance, where you will have exclusive bathrooms and bars. Time: starting at 4pm.
Starting at 4pm at HUB map, you can enjoy Carnaval party and 9 different DJs in a big event in Centro. Buy one get two beers until 6:30pm. You can buy tickets online for R$30 here, but it will be also available at the door.
This is a true carioca funk music at Palaphita map in Gávea. Attractions for the evening are MC Sapão and MC Marcinho, two famous singers that are very important for the funk scene since its big boom in Rio de Janeiro. DJs will be also playing hip-hop, pop and house at the event. Tickets are ranging from R$40 to R$120 and can be bought here. There will be an open bar from 9pm until 11pm. Doors open at 9pm.
Great party with open bar and open food! Confirmed attractions: Royal Ic, Pic Schmitz, Lucce, Manza e BG DJ Crew. The venue for this event is Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro in Urca map. It’s a fancy place and the price is also high compared to other parties in Rio, but if that’s your vibe, go for it. Iate Clube is known for amazing parties with beautiful people and a great vibe. Prices are R$880 for women and R$1200 for men. You can buy it here. Party starts at 4pm.
- Bloco do Rennan da Penha
This party is reuniting big names of today’s funk music. Rennan da Pena, Jojo Todynho, Duduzinho, Mc Ysa, Furacão 200 and more. You can buy tickets here. Time of the event: 4pm.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$95.
- Vasco vs Flamengo Football Game
The two biggest teams in Rio de Janeiro are playing against each other today at Maracanã Stadium. The match is part of the carioca championship. This is a great opportunity to go to a classic game in a classic stadium in Brazil. Tickets are not being sold yet, but you can keep an eye at Vasco’s website for more information about two or three days before the game.
The Lavradio Fair — Feira Rio Antigo — is a popular street market in Rio de Janeiro that takes place on the first Saturday of every month in the Lavradio Street, Centro. Exceptionally this time, the fair is going to be on the second Saturday of the month,m celebrating the Women’s International Day. It’s the perfect place to find good jewellery, cheap and nice clothing, antique shops and more. For this edition, there will be live music with singer Nai Dias celebrating women in samba. Time: From 10am until 7pm. Free event.
- Forró do Arpoador
Food, fashion, craft beer, art and more. Live forró starting at 5pm. Venue: Praça Garota de Ipanema, Arpoador map. Free event.
From March 15th until March 17th, festival Cervejeiro Carioca is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at Lagoon map. More than 10 breweries are confirmed in the event, which will also feature food trucks, fashion, art and jewellery stands, live music and more. The event is free.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
- Festa Até às 4
Street party with live music, DJs, lots of locals and lots of fun! People usually say this party “Festa Até às 4” is very good, but the organizers only disclosure the venue of the event a few days before it happens. So keep an eye on their event on Facebook if you’re interested.
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$95.

- Fluminense vs. Botafogo Football Game
Two big teams in Rio de Janeiro are competing during the Carioca championship. The venue for the game is the famous Maracanã Stadium. Tickets are not being sold yet because both Fluminense and Botafogo have other games before this one, but you can check Fluminense’s website a few days before this game for more information.
- Urca Blues Beer Fest
From 1pm to 11pm, Praça General Tiburcio map in Urca will be hosting a Blues Festival with live music, dance, food and art stands, craft beer and more. Free event.
- Coffee Festival
If you like coffee, this event is definitely for you. From March 23rd until March 24th, Festival do Café event will promote the culture of specialty coffees and its various forms of consumption. This collaborative event aims to bring producers and consumers together. They will gather more than 50 exhibitors, including various types coffee drinks, as well as harmonized gastronomy. Venue: Museu da República (Rua do Catete, 153) map. Time: From 10am to 6pm.
Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center, you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$95.
- Festa Prime
This event has more than 10 years of tradition. Conformed attractions: DJ Zullu, Mc TH, grupo Sua Amiga Gosta, DJ Tucho, DJ Tartaruga and more. Premium open bar with Absolut vodka, Red Bull energy drink, Ballantine’s whisky, beer, sparkling wine, fresh juices, drinks, water and much more. Venue: Marina da Glória map. Time: from 10:30pm until 5am. Tickets ranging from R$180 to R$290 can be bought here.
