Rio de Janeiro is packed up with great events in the month of July. From Festa Juninas to music festivals, football games and some awesome free events, the city has something excited every day this month. Check our calendar below for the best events in Rio de Janeiro and have fun while visiting the Marvellous City!
- CADEG Winter Festival
CADEG map, the Municipal Market of Rio, is having its winter festival where all restaurants are joining with special dishes and drinks. The festival also features live music, circus presentation, free workshops, lectures and more. Check the full schedule on their event on Facebook. The festival happens until July 21st, so you have a lot of time to plan a trip to CADEG. Event is happening every day from 12pm until 5pm.
- TedxRio 2019
TED is considered the largest conference of innovative ideas in the world. The TEDx events aim to promote connection, discussion and action between people. TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is an event known for its videos on the internet with keynote addresses from science, business, the arts, technology and global issues. It is a program that promotes local events by bringing people together to share a TED experience. The eighth edition of TEDxRio will discuss the future of health. The event will have two sessions of conversations between people who contribute to the creation of a better country. Around 8 lecturers will debate topics such as technology and innovation in health, blockchain revolution, depression, ethics vs. genome, among other things. The event runs from 10am to 4pm, with talks lasting between 12 and 18 minutes. They will also have live music there. Venue: Oi Casa Grande – Leblon map. Continue to enjoy the Festas Juninas as they happen around the city. This time at Parque Garota de Ipanema map, join the party with traditional foods, drinks, music and dance. Friday, July 5th, from 5pm until 11pm. Saturday and Sunday from 12pm until 11pm. Free event.
This free event is bringing wine lovers together for an evening full of wine, good food and live music. From July 5th until July 7th, from 5pm until 8pm at Lagoon map.
The Lavradio Fair — Feira Rio Antigo — is a popular street market in Rio de Janeiro that takes place on the first Saturday of every month in the Lavradio Street, Centro. It’s the perfect place to find good jewelry, cheap and nice clothing, antique shops and more.
Circuito Interno Bhering is like a big fair with everything you can think of. Fashion brands, shops, food, drinks and music — tons of attractions spread over six floors of this amazing old building. The venue for this is the old Bhering Factory, in Santo Cristo neighbourhood, near Centro (Rua Orestes, 28 map). A good choice to spend a relaxed Saturday afternoon. From 1pm to 8pm. Free entrance.
- Modinha party
If you are looking for a great night out, to dance and meet new people, Modinha is the place for you. DJs will be playing pop, rock, carioca funk and more. This edition is looking to bring back some good old music from the 90’s. Buy tickets here. Venue: Vivo Rio map.
Sunset Party at Morro da Urca with feijoada, great drinks, DJs and live music for you to have fun all day long. Premium Open Bar until 6:30pm, feijoada until 7pm. Buy tickets here – they will grant you access to the cable car to get you to Morro da Urca.
The hike to Pedra da Gávea, located in the middle of Tijuca Forest, is one of the most popular ones in Rio de Janeiro. Going up the 833 meter high mountain is a challenge, but those who succeed receive a reward with maybe the most spectacular view of the city. - Bud Basement

- Arena Maravilha
This is another great place to watch the finals of the CONMEBOL America Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup. This events starts at 1pm and goes on until 5am with lots of attractions, such as DJs and live samba band. You can check the entire schedule here. Tickets are being sold online for R$100. Venue: Morro da Urca.
- We Are Rio
Train to run a marathon in this event. We Are Rio will have: coaches specialized in running, warming-up session, pacers during the run, post-workout snack, giveaways and more. Sign up here. You can choose to run 5km, 11km or 16km. Venue: Praia do Leblon ( Av. Delfim Moreira, in front of number 412 map). The events starts at 7am.
Every year since 2003, Flip has offered a unique experience infused with literature. Always staged together with the town that hosts it, the festival is more than an event, it is a cultural statement. As an ongoing interaction with the arts, it provides experiences focused above all on diversity. Every year, Flip pays tribute to a Brazilian author as a way of preserving, perpetuating, spreading and appreciating both the Portuguese language and the literature of Brazil. - Festa Junina da Lagoa
Traditional foods, drinks, music, dance and more. Join this free event and experience what a great Festa Junina is. Venue: Pilotis Lagoon map. From July 12th until July 14th. Time: 12pm until 11pm.
- Rio Maravilha – Winter Festival
Starting July 12th, the Winter Festival at Marica da Glória map promises to warm Rio up. Every year the festival is a huge success, bringing together beautiful people in a great venue and an awesome view of Rio de Janeiro and the Guanabara Bay. On July 12th, attractions are carioca singers Zeca Pagodingo singing Samba, Jorge Ben Jor with MPB and Marcelo D2 with his rap music. On July 13th, the festival celebrates rock music and attractions are Raimundos, Barão Vermelho, Biquini Cavadão and Nando Reis. And the last night of festival, July 14th, celebrates the sertanejo music (Brazilian country music) with singers Marília Mendonça and Ferrugem. Tickets are ranging from R$60 to R$220 and can be purchased here.
One of Rio de Janeiro’s best-kept secrets is the island of Paquetá, off the coast in the bay of Guanabara. A small place where cars are not allowed, and where bicycles rule. With this tour, you’ll hop on a bike in Ipanema to set off in the direction of Paquetá, an old refuge for bohemian Cariocas. Price: R$95.
- Arraiá do Copa
Famous Copacabana Palace Hotel is hosting its own Festa Junina this weekend with lots of dancing and great attractions. Tickets are R$120 and don’t include food or drinks. You can buy them here.
Affordable vegan cuisine and products, such as fashion, art and cosmetics free of animal suffering. This event will be donating part of its income to an animal advocacy organization. Free entrance and pet-friendly. Location: Fundição Progresso, Lapa map. From 12pm until 18pm.
- Arraiá do Me Enterra Na Quarta
Mixing together Festa Junina and Carnaval, Bloco Me Enterra Na Quarta is hosting this great event in Lapa. Dances, live music, traditional food and more. Venue: Rua da Relação, 3 – Centro map. Price: R$25 at the door. Time: starting at 10pm.
A Caipirinha event hosted by Caminhos Language Centre, a Brazilian Portuguese language school in Rio. This is an informal party on the sidewalks, where they offer really good caipirinha for only R$5 and you can meet other foreigners in Brazil, as well as local friends who stop by. The atmosphere is always great, with free snacks available and Brazilian music playing. Starts at 5pm but people usually start to arrive around 6:30pm. Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema.
- Sailing Trip to Cagarras Islands
Sail around Guanabara Bay and enjoy its marvelous views. Continue through the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema to the Cagarras Islands where we will spend the day swimming and snorkeling. This is a full day trip, leaving Marina da Glória at 11am and returning at 5pm. This trip repeats every Saturday and Sunday, so you can just check when it’s best for you. Rio de Janeiro is famous for its nature, and Tijuca Forest is one of the best places to visit to see the rich nature the city has to offer. From great hikes to refreshing waterfalls to awesome views, it is all there in one of the biggest urban forests in the world. Price: R$95.

From the same creators of Rock in Rio, Game XP is a huge game convention in Rio de Janeiro. From July 25th until July 28th, join gamers from all over the world for this amazing experience. Game XP have turned Rio de Janeiro Olympic Park into an amusement park with all you’ve ever dreamed of: a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, live concerts, and exclusive attractions, which allow visitors to experience games away from the screens. Situated across the bay of Guanabara, you’ll find the city of Niterói. Starting from Ipanema this bike tour will take you to Copacabana beach, Botafogo and downtown Rio – with several stops on the way. In Rio’s Center, you’ll take a ferry, while bringing your bike on board as well, and will go to Niterói, where you’ll visit lots of beautiful spots. Price: R$95.
- Canta Niterói
This is a huge music festival that usually happens once or twice a year in Niterói, a smaller city just across the Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro. This time, the event is having two major stages, one of them only for carioca funk music. For the line up, the biggest names of the Brazilian music: Dennis DJ, Léo Santana, Mc Pocahontas, Thiaguinho and many more. The event starts at 12pm and goes on all day long.
